2021 Photographic Challenge

Empowering Community through Local Economy

The globalised economy plays a central role in the perpetuation of widespread inequality and ecological destruction.

At the heart of our vision of a sustainable, abundant future is the transition to decentralised, resilient local economies, which put responsibility, wealth and power back into the hands of local people and communities.

We are inviting photographers of all ages and backgrounds to capture a colour image of local economy in action.

Here are a few examples of how local economies empower people and support environmental recovery:

  • Worker-owned cooperatives
  • Local food systems
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Repair cafés
  • Tool banks
  • Energy microgrids
  • Local alternative currencies
  • Revival of traditional skills and crafts

There are many more and we’d love to see your perspective on this topic.

The winning photo will be used as the signature image for our 2021 international online conference, Systems Change Through Local Economies.

The first prize winner and two runners up will be featured on our website.

All submissions that meet the criteria will be appear in an online exhibition at the conference in September of this year.
